INFORMED CONSENT STATEMENT - for students

Research on ITT Tech Online Programs

You are invited to participate in an evaluation study. The purpose of this study is to understand online courses and examine ways to make online courses more effective, efficient and enjoyable.

INFORMATION

In this study, you will be asked to take part in an interview or focus group which may be conducted in person or by teleconference or telephone. The interview or focus group will take less than 60 minutes. The interview or focus group is mainly to gather information about your experiences taking online courses at ITT Tech and your perceptions of online learning environment in general. 2 to 3 email follow-ups may be used with follow-up questions or check the accuracy of data analysis. It will take no more than 15 minutes to finish each email follow-up. You may also be asked to participate in a survey, which takes no more than 15-20 minutes of your time.

The interviews and/or focus group discussions will be audio taped and the tapes will be destroyed by May 30, 2009.

BENEFITS

Your participation will contribute the improvement of the quality of learning environment for online courses at ITT in the future.

RISKS

There are no foreseeable risks or discomforts of any kind associated with this study.

CONFIDENTIALITY

All the information collected in the study will be kept confidential. All electronic documents (syllabus, assignment postings and online conference scripts) gathered in the study will be kept confidential. Records of interview data and electronic resources will be kept secure until May 30, 2009 and then destroyed. Pseudonyms will be used to identify the individual responses

PARTICIPATION

Your participation in this study is voluntary, and you may refuse to participate without penalty. If you decide to participate, you may withdraw from the study at anytime without penalty and without loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. If you withdraw from the study before data collection is completed, your data will be destroyed.
